Responding to Flooded Czech Republic
Samaritan’s Purse staff members are hard at work in the northwestern corner of the Czech Republic after torrential rain pounded several Central European countries on Sept. 14. At least 30 people have lost their lives in the flooding and thousands of residents evacuated the area.
Our teams are helping residents clean out homes in and around the city of Jesenik, situated in the mountainous Olomouc region. Working in partnership with local churches, we are removing mud, water, debris, and ruined belongings from homes, all while sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
“This region received a year’s worth of rain in one storm,” said Jon Stone who is leading the response. “As a result, the river valleys experienced flash flooding that exceeded the last known flood levels from 1997.”
Please pray for residents of Jesenik, surrounding areas, and this area of Central Europe as they pick up the pieces of their lives and brace for more rains in the coming days. Pray also for our partner churches as they seek to minister to people in need amid their own losses.
