Greta’s Canal in Cambodia Brings New Life
Greta Van Susteren travelled with Samaritan’s Purse in 2015 to Cambodia’s Yeay Ort village, not far from the Thai border. The highest spot in the surrounding area, the village was dry and brown. Residents wondered then where they would get clean water, so many crossed the border in search of questionable employment.
That’s when Samaritan’s Purse discovered that Yeay Ort only had about 10 days of food left.
“Samaritan’s Purse, with the help of John Coale and Greta Van Susteren, built a canal that brought water not just to this village, but it’s now benefiting five other villages,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “They’re getting not one rice harvest, but two.”
Rice fields now thrive in Yeay Ort, Cambodia, thanks to the new water supply.
Now instead of migrating, over 850 families farm in the village, with the proceeds creating a bustling marketplace and a strengthened economy that’s supporting a private school for their children. We praise God that in the process, people are coming to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!
