How You Can Take the Gospel to the Ends of the Earth

Let a Child Know Jesus Loves Them

Many children around the world are growing up without knowing who Jesus is. Some have never received a gift of their own. Through Boxes Beyond Borders, Operation Christmas Child is reaching children the world often overlooks—those cut off by remote terrain, caught in conflict, or living under strict religious restriction where the Gospel cannot be openly shared.

For £25, you can give a shoebox gift online that will cross borders that traditional shoeboxes cannot. Your donation will be used to specially prepare a gift-box that will meet strict customs requirements and cultural sensitivities—carrying a present and the Gospel to boys and girls who might otherwise never receive either.

Read on to see how Operation Christmas Child is reaching boys and girls in some of the most difficult to reach places on earth.

Beyond Borders in the Amazon Rainforest

Geography is one of the hardest barriers to reaching a child with the Gospel. The Chapra people are cut off from the modern world—reachable only by a journey of 100 miles and, in some villages, only by canoe.

“They have all heard the Word of God, that Jesus came into this world, and that Jesus came to die for us.”

—Masorashi Nochomata, leader of one of the Chapra communities

Operation Christmas Child journeyed upriver by handmade canoe with over 1,000 shoebox gifts. In under a week, the team reached 12 communities, enabling 1,058 children to receive a shoebox gift, and their own copy of the Gospel story that had been specifically translated into the Chapra language. Before this, the indigenous tribe had never owned any printed materials in their heart language.

For a people who have only ever told their stories aloud, the Word of God can now be read, kept, and passed on for generations to come.

New Borders Open for Operation Christmas Child in the Middle East

In parts of the Middle East, sharing the Gospel openly is dangerous, even forbidden. For more than 20 years, Operation Christmas Child had no way in. Last year, that changed. Boxes built online, opened a door that had stayed shut for two decades.

After receiving a shoebox gift and hearing the Gospel at an Operation Christmas Child outreach event, Sidra attended The Greatest Journey follow-on discipleship course. But Sidra’s life had not been easy. Her parents had divorced when she was young and her family was later displaced from their home. So at the start of The Greatest Journey, her heart was hard, and she openly disagreed with the Bible lessons she heard.

However, that slowly began to change. Sidra started asking questions about following Christ. After months of growth and discipleship, she made the decision to be baptised. Recently, Sidra surprised the team once again when, during a time of prayer for the ministry, she stepped forward to lead the other children in prayer herself.

Today, the girl who once pushed back against the message is now teaching it. Sidra serves as a teacher in the Operation Christmas Child ministry, helping reach more boys and girls with the same Gospel that once challenged her.

On the Borders of Conflict in Ukraine: Timothy's Story

War makes it difficult to reach a child with hope—and harder still to get physical gifts into a country under conflict. But for children like Timothy, who was ten years old when he learned his father wasn't coming home, there is a massive need for the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ.

Timothy holds the shoebox gift he received on his birthday—a gift he believes only God could have known he needed.

Operation Christmas Child

Timothy’s father had died on the first day of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, defending the land Timothy's family called home. Left to grieve alongside his mother, brother, and sisters, Timothy carried a weight no child should have to hold—in a country where that grief is becoming painfully common.

A friend's invitation to a church youth club became the turning point. There, people prayed for him, and he was given a shoebox gift containing a football, stationery, clothing, and more on one particular special day—Timothy’s birthday! Only God, Timothy believed, could have known exactly what he needed that day.

As the war drags on and more children face losses like his, it’s never been more important that we reach them with the message of hope that’s found in Jesus Christ alone.

The Greatest Gift is the Gospel

Alongside every shoebox gift, boys and girls are given a child-friendly Gospel booklet called The Greatest Gift. The gifts themselves are distributed at outreach events where the Good News is preached. Afterwards, each child is invited to a 12-lesson discipleship course called The Greatest JourneyThis means that Operation Christmas Child is not just about a mass distribution of toys, but rather the shoebox gifts are a vehicle for taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

“The mums are so happy to see their kids receive the gifts,” shared Marcia Shutka, a translator for the Chapra People. “But most importantly, they heard the story of Jesus.”

More Children Are Waiting to Hear About Jesus

Every shoebox gift you donate online represents another boy or girl who will hear and have the opportunity to respond to the Gospel. Please pray for them, that they will receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Last year, over 3.5 million indicated decisions for Jesus through the work of Operation Christmas Child. Your support will expand this vital work that is taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
