Many Christians around the globe do not have a Bible. They’ve never had the opportunity to read and study God’s Word on their own. Samaritan’s Purse has always been committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we work to provide both children and adults with copies of Scripture so that they can grow in their knowledge of God and His love for them.
Samaritan’s Purse undertook a massive Bible distribution in South Sudan in 2007 among a number of different tribes. We passed out 260,000 copies of Scripture to churches and believers who had essentially been unable to access Bibles and Christian literature due to the many years of civil war. We also trained Sudanese Christians on how to start reading groups where they could read the Bible in a community setting and together grow in their understanding of God’s Word.
Today, we continue to provide Bibles to the women and men who participate in our Biblical literacy training in South Sudan. Our other field offices also incorporate Bible distributions into their programming, such as our team in Kenya that gives Bibles to clean water project beneficiaries living in impoverished villages.
Samaritan’s Purse distributes Bibles to the millions of boys and girls who participate in The Greatest Journey, our follow-up discipleship program for Operation Christmas Child shoebox recipients that began in 2009. Every child who graduates from the 12-lesson course is given a Bible that includes the New Testament and selected Old Testament stories in their language. This is often the first copy of God’s Word the child, or the family, has ever owned.
Samaritan’s Purse also provides a Billy Graham Study Bible to every homeowner we help in the aftermath of a U.S. disaster response. Every volunteer who works on a homeowner’s property signs the Bible and it is presented during a special time of prayer and encouragement.
Please pray for these ongoing efforts to equip people with the enduring Word of God.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
